Nehemiah: For the Contribution of the Community

Nehemiah: For the Contribution of the Community

Have you heard the saying that “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link?”  Well, what if each link in that chain was able to assist the others – you’d then have a cord assisted by the entirety of its common ability.

I believe this is a picture of what the church can be as we look to help one another and lift each other up where we are weak.

Nehemiah chapter 3 covers an accounting of all the work done on the walls of the city by the entirety of the community.  Its a beautiful chapter that reveals their participation and cooperation to accomplish a task far greater than any one individual.

1 Corinthians 12:27-30

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?”

1. How do you manage an impossible task?
Delegation – “break it down to build it up”

2. How do you accomplish something larger than you are able?
Cooperation – “many hands make light work”

3. How do you find where you fit in the project?
Participation – “You will fail at 100% of the opportunities you don’t take”

4. How do you honor the accomplishment of your team?
Recognition – “give credit where credit is due”

5. How do you fix what is broken?
Resurrection – “repair” 38x

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone behold, the new has come.”

  1. What is your role?
  2. How are you filling in for others?
  3. Where are you honoring those who serve?
  4. Are you living now, preparing for resurrection?
