There is a movement in our culture to capitalize upon the temptations of the flesh, whether that be with food, sex, or sloth. How is it that the church can emphasize the surrender of our hearts to God, but not the surrender of our bodies? Let us look at what the Apostle Paul writes as he address how the church in Rome is understand their new calling as believers: those who are now “alive” in Christ!
Romans 6:11-14
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as an instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
The Process of Sanctification
- Offer yourself to God
- Offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness
Because you are…
- Dead to sin
- Alive to God
- Not under law
- Under grace
Application
How are you using your body as an instrument of righteousness to glorify God?
What part of your body do you need to further “sanctify” and give more attention?
