When we look to the heavens we see an example of obedience from God’s creation. When we look into His Word we see a perfection that reveals our sins. But when we take a look at our own hearts, we see a need for a Redeemer. 

Observations:

1. The majesty of God is found in the consistency of the heavens
   – The heavens keep God’s time: Days, years, seasons, lunar phases
   – The heavens keep God’s courses: Earth, Moon, planets, stars
   – The heavens keep God’s laws: Gravity, orbital mechanics, inertia
2. The majesty of God is universally available
3. The majesty of God is seen in the function of illumination
4. Where we see God’s astronomical and moral laws as perfect, we also see another law that reveals our failure

Conclusions: 

1. The precision of God’s astronomical laws are a model for His moral law
   A. When the heavens keep consistent to God’s astronomical laws they declare His glory
   B. When we live faithfully according to God’s moral laws our lives declare His glory

   A. God’s astronomical laws are universally binding and visible
   B. God’s moral laws are universally binding and visible

   A. God’s astronomical laws have a specific function of illumination
   B. God’s moral laws have a specific function of illumination of sin

2. We need assistance to understand and obey God’s laws
   A. God’s laws must be seen through the lens of the fear of the Lord
   B. God’s laws can only be seen as perfect through the work of the Redeemer

Application: 

1. Open your heart to allow conviction over sin according to God’s Word
2. Don’t take one step towards obedience without Jesus
3. Let the ordered redeeming perfection of Jesus’ life assist you to illuminate your heart and draw all your affections towards God everyday

Psalm 104:19-23

“He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.”

Jeremiah 31:35-36

“This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord Almighty is his name: “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the Lord, “will Israel ever cease being a nation before me.”

Jeremiah 33:25-26

“This is what the Lord says: ‘If I have not made my covenant with day and night and established the laws of heaven and earth, then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Romans 1:20

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

Romans 7:14-23

Matthew 5:15-16

Galatians 3:23-24

“Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.”
