Unseen Sins – Drunkenness

Unseen Sins – Drunkenness

Observations:

  1. The substance of alcohol is not inherently evil
  2. The consumption of alcohol is intended by God to be a blessing
  3. The sin of drunkenness is the act of becoming intoxicated
  4. Our genetics and upbringing do not cause us to sin, they can only influence how we sin

Conclusions:

  1. Irresponsibility: engaging in drunkenness out of a disrespect for, or disobedience to God
  2. Idolatry: turning to drunkenness rather than Christ

Application:

  1. If you are engaging in drunkenness out of irresponsibility, repent
  2. If you are engaging in drunkenness out of idolatry:
                 A. Identify where you don’t trust Jesus
                 B. Confess that you’ve put your trust in an idol and ask for forgiveness
                 C. Ask Jesus to help you destroy your idol
                 D. Seek help from a former idolator
                 E. Leave it at the foot of the cross
