Nehemiah: For the Protection of the Community

Nehemiah: For the Protection of the Community

Jesus said that “in this world you will have trouble;” Nehemiah faced this trouble head on. Today we will look at his response to the opposition of those whose desire it was to stir up trouble. Going beyond insults, Nehemiah faced actual threats on his life – how would you or I respond? We will see through chapter 4 how he handles supporting the community the middle of the greatest struggle that the rebuilding project has faced to date.

Conclusion:
#1 – The unity of the community is essential

Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

#2 – The battle belongs to God, but preparation is prudent

Romans 12:18-19

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

#3 – Don’t answer a fool according to his folly

Proverbs 26:4

Don’t answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself.

#4 – Finish what you start

Philippians 1:4-6

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 1:8-9

He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
