Definition of Pride: Inappropriately valuing yourself in relation to others and to God

Observations:

  1. Pride is both an action and an attitude
  2. Prideful people are an abomination to God
  3. Pride is the root cause of downfall
  4. Pride causes separation from God
  5. Humility is recognizing one’s lowliness and dependence on God

Application:

  1. Ask God to dwell with you
  2. Ask for His grace
  3. Ask for humility and imitate Christ’s humility

1 Timothy 3:1

“Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task.”

Proverbs 16:18

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Proverbs 16:5

“Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.”

Psalm 2:1-6

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
