Luke: Our Rescuer

Luke: Our Rescuer

Today we enter into one of the most difficult narratives of the passion week, when Jesus is betrayed, arrested, and abandoned. The question we will look at is “why?”
We will see that Jesus’ journey to the cross by Himself is one that He makes because of his love for you and me.  Therefore, since He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness, it is now our privilege to worship Him by living a life worthy of His calling and in all our efforts we say “thank you.”

1 John 4:9-10

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
  • Judas – the Fake
He welcomes you even when you betray Him
  • Malchus – the Fighter
He loves you and heals you even when you hurt Him
  • Peter – the Fearful
He gives to you even when you abandon Him
  • You – the Forgiven

Colossians 1:9-14

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
