The reality of salvation for 1st century Christians was their adoption into Christ as evidenced through their participation and perseverance with God’s family. 

Observations: 

1. John says many antichrists have come
2. They went out from us
3. They were not of us
4. John writes to you
5. John writes so that you may have confidence

Conclusions:

1. Know who you are and where you belong
2. We are known by our endurance
3. Remain in Him and with “us”
